Here are just a few of the many things to do while visiting the Outer Banks!

  • Currituck Lighthouse – Corolla – 252.453.4939
  • Climb 158’ to the top of the lighthouse where you will have great views of the ocean and sound.  The lighthouse is open daily from Easter through Thanksgiving.  On days with high winds the lighthouse may be closed for climbing.  Admission - $6.00

  • Rent an ATV and travel the northernmost area of the Outer Banks on a guided tour along the beaches and through protected wildlife refuges.   ATV tours are available from June through mid-September.  Call for rates.

  • Come see the Outer Banks premiere live music show featuring America’s favorite music.  From popular country to 50's/60's pop - from show tunes to patriotic classics - the Showcase has it all in one sensational show.

  • The first successful powered flight was made here by Wilbur and Orville Wright on December 17, 1903. Open daily.  Admission is $3.00 per person with individuals 16 and younger admitted free of charge.

  • Climb the tallest natural sand dune in the Eastern United States and enjoy views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Albemarle Sound.  Open daily and admission is free.

  • The Lost Colony – Roanoke Island/Manteo – 252.473.3414
  • A Theatre Under the Stars!  A 400 year old mystery haunts Roanoke Island.  In 1587, about 120 men, women and children established the first English colony in the New World, and then they vanished with a trace!  The 2006 production season begins Friday, 2 June through Friday, 18 August.  Shows are Monday through Saturday at 8:30 PM with admission ranging from $8.00 to $20.00 per person.  Tickets can be purchased in advance!

  • North Carolina Aquarium – Roanoke Island/Manteo – 1.800.532.FISH
  • The aquarium offers indoor and outdoor exhibits featuring a variety of programs, which include marine life videos, audience participation games, feeding programs, and live animals.  Open daily.  Admission for adults - $8.00; seniors - $7.00; children ages 6 – 17 - $6; and children under the age of 5 are free.

  • Bodie Lighthouse – South Nags Head/Cape Hatteras Nat’l Seashore – 252.441.5711
  • Although you are unable to climb this lighthouse, you are able to enter the base of the structure and look straight up the 150’ tower.  You can also visit the Keeper’s House and walk the trails surrounding the site.  Open daily from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.  Admission is free.

  • Cape Hatteras Lighthouse – Off NC Highway 12, Buxton – 252.995.4474
  • The tallest lighthouse in the nation at 200 feet, it was moved 2,900 feet inland in 1999 to protect it from wind and encroaching water.  Open for climbing, weather and wind permitting, from early April until Columbus Day.  Visitor’s Center and museum are open year-round from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
